Edge BI includes a semantic layer ("universe") that resides between an organization’s database and the end-user, and acts as a business representation of your data.
Access information using familiar business terminology
Universes allow users to interact with their data without having to know the complexities of the database or how the data is modeled.
They are created using familiar business terminology to describe the business environment, and allow the user to retrieve the specific data that interests them.
Universes are typically created for each subject area: such as Sales, Marketing, Accounts Payable, Logistics, etc...
All Edge BI tools are capable of using the universe semantic layer as a data source.
Implement role-based access restrictions
You can apply a restriction to a selected group or user account for a universe.
When users connect to a universe, the objects, rows, query types, and connection that they use in the universe are determined by their applied restriction. This limits the access to universe objects or resources based on the profile of the user group.
